How to play Football Daily
The rules are simple, and you can pick them up in a single round. When the board loads it shows six empty columns, one for each clue, and a text box where you type your first guess. Start entering a name and a list of matching players appears; pick one to lock it in. A new row then fills in with the six coloured clues for that player, scored against the hidden footballer of the day. You have eight guesses in total, so there is room to probe with a broad first pick and then close in as the colours tell you more.
Most players open with someone from a league or country they know well, read the feedback, and use it to steer the next attempt. If the nationality comes back yellow you know you are in the right confederation but the wrong country, which quietly rules out a huge slice of the pool. If the club column lands yellow you have found a player at a different club in the same league, so the league is confirmed and you can switch your focus to the squad list. Keep chaining guesses like this and eight tries is usually plenty. Solve it and your daily streak ticks up by one; run out of guesses and the answer is revealed, the streak resets to zero, and there is always tomorrow.
How the clues work
Every guess is graded on nationality, league, club, position, age and shirt number. Green on any column means an exact match with the mystery player. Grey means no match at all. Yellow is the interesting one, because it means you are warm rather than cold: on nationality it flags the same confederation, on the club column a different side in the same league, on position an adjacent role along the goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward line, on age a gap of two years or fewer, and on shirt number a difference of three or fewer. The age and shirt columns add one more hint, a small arrow that points up when the mystery player is older or wears a higher number and down when the opposite is true, so you can zero in on the exact figure.
Player data such as club, league, shirt number and age is captured as a dated snapshot, which is shown in the footer of the game so you always know how fresh the answers are. Once you finish, the result screen sums up your run and offers a share button that copies a spoiler-free grid of coloured squares, plus a link into the archive if you want another round straight away. Your statistics panel keeps a running record of games played, win rate, current streak, best streak and how many guesses you usually need, so you can watch yourself improve over the weeks.

Football Daily: common questions
How does the daily Football Daily puzzle work?
Every day the game selects one mystery footballer from a large pool of current stars. You have eight guesses to name that player. Each guess must be a real player picked from the suggestion list, and every guess you make is scored against the target so the board keeps narrowing the field. A fresh player is picked automatically each day, and a countdown on the result screen shows when the next one unlocks.
What do the six clues mean?
Each guess is scored on six columns: nationality, league, club, position, age and shirt number. Green means an exact match on that column. Yellow means you are close: the same confederation for nationality, a different club in the same league, an adjacent role on the goalkeeper to forward line, an age within two years, or a shirt number within three. Is the puzzle the same for everyone?
Yes. The player of the day is derived from the calendar date, so everyone who plays on the same day is chasing the same mystery footballer. That is what makes the result worth sharing: your score grid uses coloured squares only, with no player names, so you can post how many guesses it took without spoiling the answer for anyone else.
How does guessing and scoring work?
